New Lease of Life

During the night of the 15th/16th October 1987,  'The Great Storm' of 1987 raged over the south of England and we woke to find that a beautiful old walnut tree had been blown down in front of the main farmhouse.

The main trunk was taken to a good friend Roy Howard at Morchard Road (now trading as Mid Devon Firewood) and sawn into planks.  Since then, it has been ‘seasoning’ in the tallet of a cob barn in the yard.

Now, almost exactly 31 years later, two of those planks are going to be crafted into the bar at Harefield Barn.  We can’t wait to see how they turn out once they have been planed and finished.  They should make a wonderful feature in the bar with happy couples getting married just above in our own special Tallet!
