Harefield Barn is unique. From the outset, we have done our utmost to provide a flexible space to help you create your perfect event. It is predominantly used for weddings, but enquiries for parties and celebrations, exhibitions, corporate training events, and all manner of other occasions are very welcome. Our vision is for you to be able to hold your event, your way! We offer a fully flexible and well thought out building, giving you a blank canvas so you can to use your own creative skills to decorate the space and develop a personal theme should you wish. And what's more, it's the perfect location whatever the unpredictable British weather throws at you.
The process of building and landscaping the site took over a year, and will, of course, be an ongoing task as it matures and develops. Our amazing team of professional advisors and builders have worked hard to produce a superb result, which we are proud to share with you now.
Harefield's sweeping drive leads you past the large area of free car parking to the turning circle at the front of the building. Here your less able guests can be dropped off, or the bride can make her grand entrance.
The wood and glass Porch leads you into the entrance hall, from where you can access the welcoming Bar area, toilets, and on towards the Main Hall. The internal doors of the porch open right against the wall allowing the large porch to feel part of your mingling space for guests should you wish.
In the Main Hall, the stunning beamed ceiling gives spacious barn like proportions creating the perfect area for your wedding breakfast and celebrations. Huge windows allow the natural light to flood in and offer panoramic views of the beautiful Devon countryside.
The Saw Pit Bar area has comfortable seating, along with a drinks servery complete with fridges, chillers and glass washing facilities. There is also a wood burning stove which adds to the cosy atmosphere, particularly for autumn and winter functions.
Extensive glazed bi-fold doors give access from both the Bar and Main Hall to the Terrace area from where you can enjoy the amazing views, with an ever changing vista across the valley towards the hills above Honiton. The Terrace flows seamlessly onto the grassed area beyond and into the field giving the impression that the whole building is 'floating' in the countryside!
With seating for at least 30 guests, it also provides the perfect place to sit and enjoy the view. You could also consider hiring some different outdoor furniture as this couple did with some fabulous striped deck chairs!
On the other side of the terrace, The Clock House provides a very special place for couples to exchange their vows as it is one of the licensed areas, enabling civil wedding ceremonies to take place. The view beyond provides an amazing backdrop for your own personal promises to each other with all your friends and family gathered on the terrace to share the occasion. We have designed The Clock House to be slightly raised above the level of the terrace so your guests can watch proceedings in comfort, and should the weather prove unpredictable, we can happily move everything from the terrace into the Main Hall or Tallet. And after the ceremony; The Clock House provides the perfect place to chat with friends and catch up with the days happenings! Or as dusk falls, why not wander through the meadow or gather round the fire pit for a romantic end to a very special day.
Upstairs, the Gallery area, which is furnished with comfortable sofas and chairs, allows you and your guests to relax and look down into the hall to watch the festivities. It also has a ceremonies licence to enable you to exchange your vows, either with your guests watching from below or as an area to hold a more intimate ceremony.
Accessed from the Gallery, The Tallet provides an alternative ceremony room for up to 100 people, perfect for a winter wedding or when the weather is not so good. It is available throughout your hire and is useful for many other things, from children's play area, band 'green room' or just somewhere to store the boxes used for your decorations. The lighting can be adjusted to various different levels, and low lighting certainly creates a wonderful romantic mood for your ceremony.
Also upstairs, the Leveret Suite is set aside for the bride and her attendants to use. It has plenty of light and space for hair and make-up artists, along with a shower and toilet. The full height window with Juliet balcony gives wonderful views over the countryside towards Exeter, and is a perfect spot for your photographer to capture the atmosphere as you get ready for your big day. The Leveret Suite gives you the opportunity to make the most of the preparation time with your closest family and friends before your wedding, or take a little 'time-out' during the day. It is also licensed, so you have the option, should you wish, to have an intimate marriage here, and then enjoy a larger ceremony elsewhere in the building or grounds conducted by your own celebrant. If you are getting ready off-site this room can also double up as a quite drawing room for older guests or anyone else who needs a little quiet or privacy.
The large Catering Kitchen has been designed to give plenty of space for food preparation and has a second external access for deliveries. Your caterers are welcome to come and look at the facilities available and discuss bringing additional equipment should they need it.
We have also provided a hardstanding area for catering vans adjacent to the terrace. How about keeping your food really simple with fish and chips followed by ice creams?!
All in all, we have tried to provide the most flexible and user friendly space we can, but if you have your own ideas, why not let us know, and we’ll always do our best to help if we can!
I think after a week back to normality with work and school runs we have finally floated back down to earth from our wonderful wedding. From the set up on the Friday to landing back from our honeymoon, we never stopped smiling. So many people who came to our day expressed how much fun they had and what a fab venue Harefield is; the word is being spread far and wide! We never doubted your vision and reaped all the rewards of the finished product. I took a moment to just pause and take in the sight of our friends and family with smiley faces, happily tucking in to food, drink in hand and flowing in out and around the barn just as we wanted. You and Robert both worked so hard across the whole weekend to keep things running smoothly and we are so grateful as our memories of our day is just one of pure happiness, love and joy.
