Charlotte & Max’s Summer Wedding at Harefield Barn

“Dancing together with my new husband, family and friends was the perfect finish to an all-round perfect day!”

Charlotte and Max tied the knot on a beautiful summer’s day on Saturday 3rd June 2023, where they were graced with blue skies for the duration of their celebration. They wanted to make the most of the views across the rolling Devonshire countryside, so opted for an outdoor wedding ceremony under our gazebo, where guests relaxed in the sunshine as they witnessed the couple exchange their vows. Their wedding was the epitome of laidback luxury, and we couldn’t be happier to share a glimpse from their special day with you on the journal…

Upon viewing Harefield Barn, the couple knew instantly it was the venue for their summer wedding. “We felt Harefield suited us, with it being so adaptable to our own ideas and preferences on food, décor, music etc,” explains Charlotte. “We didn’t want to be at a venue which didn’t have any character or would be the same for every couple. So many of our guests have commented on our day, the fabulous venue and the stunning views.”

Charlotte got ready at Harefield Barn on the morning of the wedding in our beloved Bridal Suite, which offers a light and airy room with plenty of space. The bride looked stunning in a champagne A-line gown from La Boutique Exeter, which featured a lace bodice and half-length sleeves. Charlotte also chose to wear a full-length veil for the ceremony (secured with blue opal hair slides for a nod towards her ‘something blue’), which featured their initials in lace sewn onto the edging on the trail. “My shoes were the highest heel I could tolerate wearing for a day,” reminisces Charlotte. “They were also champagne with a slight shimmer and a block heel.” Corinna Lane was on hand to style her bridal hair, creating an elegant half-up half-down look with loose curls. When it came to her bridal make-up, Charlotte asked Liza Hayward for a natural finish that would last all day. Charlotte’s bridal bouquet by Hartwood Flowers was brimming with colourful wildflowers, pink peonies, peach roses, white daises and oodles of greenery – the perfect choice for summer!

The couple wanted to keep the colour scheme minimal and instead of choosing a particular wedding theme, they kept the décor simple and ‘unfussy’, which worked perfectly against the backdrop of Harefield Barn. “The only colour scheme was matching the ties of the groomsmen to the bridesmaid’s dress, which was a duck egg blue.”

Following a gorgeous outdoor ceremony, the couple spoilt their guests with quintessential Pimm’s to sip on and canapés to tuck into as everyone mingled on the patio. Our team also provided garden games which went down a storm with Charlotte and Max’s friends and family, not to mention a bouncy castle the couple hired for an extra fun touch! A BBQ was the perfect wedding breakfast option for the warm weather, which was served up alongside an array of desserts, cakes and hand-painted biscuits. In the evening, guests enjoyed a feast of a classic buffet with all the trimmings!

As the sun set, Charlotte and Max headed out into the grounds with Hannah Barnes Photography to capture some portrait images during the soft golden hour lighting. Our dreamy countryside setting here at Harefield Barn will offer you endless backdrops for your wedding photographs – something that Charlotte and Max certainly made the most of.

Evening guests gradually began to arrive to continue the celebrations where Ashes to Ashes, a live 80s band, played an incredible set for the couple and their loved ones. One of Charlotte’s favourite parts of the day was dancing with her husband, friends and family to the band. says the bride.

If the couple had any words of advice for future couples, they’d offer…

“Try to spend time together throughout the day, we opted for a sweetheart table for our wedding breakfast and I cannot recommend it enough! It’s scary how quickly the day goes, enjoy every second.”
